June Maintenance Guidelines

After years of working in the industry and building a nursery business around Oklahoma's inclement weather, we are suggesting the following maintenance quidelines.

June 2017 Maintenance Guidelines

  • Plant your container and B&B trees.
  • Remove all dead branches on established trees.
  • Remain alert for insect damage and add spider mites to the list. Foliage may become pale and speckled; juniper foliage turns a pale yellowish color. Shake a branch over white paper and watch for tiny specks that crawl.
  • Look carefully for bagworms. These are tiny brown bags barely visible to the eye. If found, easier to treat at this stage than later. Apply Hi-Yield 55% Malathion or Thuricide.
  • Pine needle disease treatments are needed again in mid-June. Apply Copper Fungicide.
  • Cultivate and mulch using Marcum's Double Ground Cedar Mulch this reduces about 70percent of the summer yard maintenance.
  • Fertilize warm season grasses using Marcum's Slow Release 18-6-12 Fertilizer as per April instructions.
  • Seeding of warm-season grasses should be completed by the end of June to reduce winter kill losses.
  • Meet water requirements of turf.
  • Post-emergent control of crabgrass and summer annual grasses is best performed on young plants using ferti-lome's Weed Out with Q. This new product kills Crabgrass, Dandelion, Clover, plus 200 other listed weeds.
  • Apply SEDGEHAMMER Turf Herbicide to eliminate yellow and purple nutsedge.
Note: Thanks to Oklahoma Coop Extension Service for providing some of the suggested maintenance guidelines. Recommended products suggested by Marcum's may be purchased at both store locations. For questions regarding June maintenance guidelines, please call 288-2368 or 691-9100.
