Many of our employees have been with us since we opened our doors for business. We consider them as part of our family. Marcum's Nursery Expectations in the Workplace:
Marcum's expects their employees to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner towards co-workers, business associates, and customers. Any behavior considered disrespectful to Marcum's Nursery may be cause for corrective action up to and including termination.
Regardless of where you work in our nursery, you are dealing with customers. We hire smiling faces and smiling voices. Who doesn't want to work with someone with a "smiling" attitude? Your customers are either internal (co-workers/teammates) or external customers (customers & vendors). Your attitude and performance on the job is a reflection of you and Marcum's Nursery. We are in the business of "people".
Professional & Overall Appearance In The Workplace
The nursery business is a unique working environment. Whether our employees work in the office, greenhouses, or on our landscaping crews, our expectations are that our employees dress according to the safety in their work area while maintaining a professional appearance. You are representing a family-owned business and personal appearance should be a matter of concern for each employee. We prefer you wear a Marcum's Nursery shirt and a personalized name badge. These are provided upon employment. If your attire is not appropriate, you will be asked to leave and dress according to the accepted dress code.
Note the following dress Code:
Shirts, Shorts, Jeans, Pants:
- Monogrammed/Printed Marcum's Nursery t-shirts are encouraged to be worn while working at the nursery and on job sites.
- All attire should be neat in appearance. Not rumpled.
- All attire must be clean, in good condition and of appropriate size.
- All attire must be conservative.
- Under garments should not be visible.
- Stylish attire is acceptable but may not be revealing.
- Male employees may not wear sleeveless t-shirts/muscle shirts.
- Jewelry must not interfere with job performance.
- Shoes should be appropriate to the employee's work area, not worn or tattered.
- Exposed toes should be clean and neatly pedicured.
- Flip flops and sandals aren't recommended.
- Employees are responsible for daily hygiene. This includes body, oral, hair, and the use of deodorant.
- Hair should be clean and should not interfere with job duties.
- Extreme hair colors are not allowed. (Ex: Hot pink, Orange, Purple, etc.)
- Facial hair should be well groomed.
- - Fingernails should be clean and not interfere with job performance.
Smoking &Tobacco Use
- Smoking and tobacco use (including the new electric cigarettes) are not allowed on our premises or on contracted job sites. Marcum's Nursery is a non-smoking facility. Tobacco use/dipping while working with customers on the job site is not tolerated.
It's your responsibility to have reliable transportation to and from work so that you may arrive on time when you are scheduled to work.
If an offer of employment is extended, employment is contingent on a successful background check.
We are committed to provide a safe environment for our employees and our customers. No employee shall work, report to work or be present on Marcum's Nursery property while "under the influence" of prescription drugs, alcohol, or any substance that could compromise your job performance or safety to yourself or others. Selling drugs or alcohol on company property is also strictly prohibited. Violation of this policy is grounds for immediate dismissal.
Foul language in the work place is offensive to your team members and customers. One word can speak volumes about you. Foul language is not tolerated. Foul language may be cause for corrective action up to and including termination.
Store Operating Hours For July - February:
Monday - Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
*Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Oklahoma City Store
Monday Saturday 8:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Saturday 8:30 - 5:30 p.m.
*Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
*We extend our daily hours of operation during the spring and summer months. We are also open on Sundays beginning March 1 through June 30 and during special sales. Work hours vary with each employee depending whether you are a full-time, part-time, or hired as a temporary seasonal employee.
October: Traditionally, we have a Fall Festival Sale in October that requires us to be open on a Sunday that may involve your participation.
June: We close out our busy season with our famous Moonlight Madness sale. The weekend of the sale varies depending on suggestions made by our advertising & marketing firm. This is a high energy all day event. Our customers have come to look forward to this event and some attend both store locations.
Additional sales are determined as needed by management and marketing.
