(CYPERIS ESCULENTUS)

  • warm season perennial also called
    Nutgrass
  • most common species are Yellow and Purple Nutsedge
  • very aggressive tuber (nut or nutlets) root system
  • after one year each tuber can create up
    to 2000 plants and up to 6000 more
    tubers
  • can grow from 6″ to 2.5′ tall
  • control of this weed is very difficult
  • Recommended Product:  Hi-Yield Nutsedge Control (a selective post emergent herbicide) or Sedgehammer

BARNYARD GRASS
(ECHINOCHLOA CRUS-GALLI)

  • warm season annual
  • fibrous root system
  • can grow 1′-5′ tall
  • plant matures in 60 days and can
    produce up to 40.000   seeds
  • reacts to both pre and post emergents

CRABGRASS
(DIGITARIA SPP.)

  • Warm season annual
  • Mat forming
  • Height to 3′
  • Leaves are 1/4″ to 1/2″ wide and 2″- 6″
    long
  • Crabgrass can be found in moist, warm
    soils where  lawns are thin or mowed too
    short.

DANDELION
(TARAXICUM OFFICINALE)

  • cool season perennial
  • reproduces by seeds and root pieces
  • has a long sturdy taproot
  • the flowers are yellow and up to 2″ in
    diameter on up to  20″ long stems
  • the flowers ripen to become puffballs
    of seeds from Spring until Fall
  • reacts to some but not all
    pre-emergents and most post
    emergents
  • Recommended ferti-lome Products: Weed Free Zone, Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery, Weed Out with Q, Hi-Yield Products:  Turflon Ester Ultra, 2, 4-D

HENBIT
(LAMIUM AMPLEXICAULE)

  • Cool season annual
  • reproduces by seeds and rooting stems
  • stems droop then turn upright to 16″
    tall and may root  where they touch the
    ground
  • grows in many different soil types
  • reacts to both pre and post emergents

KNOTWEED
(POLYGONUM ARENASTRUM)

  • warm season annual
  • has a taproot to 18″
  • plant is prostrate and mat forming
  • reproduces by seed
  • found mostly in heavy compacted soils
  • reacts to pre and post emergent

LAMBSQUARTERS
(CHENOPODIUM ALBUM)

  • warm season annual
  • short multi-branched taproot
  • can grow to 5′ tall
  • each plant is capable of producing
    thousands of seeds
  • reacts to pre and post emergents

PIGWEED
(AMARANTHUS SPP)

  • warm season annual
  • has a shallow taproot and grows upright
    to 5′
  • reproduces by seed
  • reacts to both pre and post emergents

PLANTAIN
(PLANTAGO MAJOR)

  • Cool season perennial
  • reproduces by seed
  • forms an upright or spreading stand of
    broad oval  leaves 8″ – 20″ tall
  • occurs in damp compacted soils
  • responds to both pre and post
    emergents

POANNA
(POA ANNUA)

  • Cool season annual
  • has a fibrous root system and can grow
    to 15″ tall
  • occurs in wet compacted soils in cooler
    temperatures
  • lacks tolerance to environ extremes
  • apply pre-emergent in early Fall to help
    control this  weed

PRICKLY LETTUCE
(LACTUCA SERRIOLA)

  • cool and warm season annual
  • has a deep tap root and can grow to 5′ in
    height
  • spreads by seeds
  • reacts to both pre and post emergents

PROSTRATE SPURGE
(EUPHORBIA SUPINA2)

  • Summer annual
  • reproduces by seed
  • has a central taproot where prostrate
    stems form a mat  up to two feet across
  • found in poor, thin, drought stressed
    soils
  • reacts to pre and post emergents

QUACKGRASS
(ELYTRIGIA REPENS)

  • Cool season perennial
  • reproduces by seeds and rhizomes
  • spreads by rhizomes that are 2″ – 8″
    deep
  • can grow to 4′ tall
  • resistant to pre-emergent

WITCHGRASS
(PANICUM CAPILLARE)

  • warm season annual
  • reproduces by seed
  • can grow 1′ – 3′ tall
  • prefers disturbed soils areas
  • reacts to pre and post emergents
