(syngonium podophyllum)

This fast-growing vine is constantly unfurling new foliage, in varieties ranging from dark green with strong white variegation to hues of lime and even pink. As arrowhead plants mature, they develop a climbing habit, making them great for trellises or other climbing structures.

LIGHT:​ Provide medium to bright indirect or filtered light without direct sunlight to prevent leaves from getting scorched. If you notice more growth on one side then turn the pot because that side is likely to be receiving more light (this will even growth out).

HUMIDITY:​ In its natural habitat the arrowhead plant receives plenty of humidity; however, in temperate regions most homes are suitable. Try to avoid dry air from heating systems. Using a humidifier or pebble tray can help increase humidity if necessary.

WATERING: When the top soil becomes dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Arrowhead plants don’t like to get too dry, but be careful not to overwater. Try to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during the growing months.

PROPAGATION​:​ Between spring and summer you can take a 4” stem tip cutting with only one or two leaves (remove others). If a tip has new growth use that – it will propagate easier. Dip the cutting into rooting hormone if you have it then plant in slightly moist potting soil. Arrowhead plant cuttings also root easily in water. Make sure to change out the water weekly.

ADDITIONAL CARE:

• Yellowing leaves can be caused by over or under watering. Under watering is often visible by yellowing starting at the top (can also be brown and crunchy) and edges of leaves. Over watering is visible by yellowing starting at the bottom. Remove affected leaves and water your plant with fish emulsion as needed.
• Fertilize regularly—about once a month or every other watering—during the growing months with a gentle fertilizer, like fish emulsion or houseplant fertilizer. During the fall and winter months, reduce the fertilizer or stop altogether if you aren’t much growth.
• Pruning during summer will encourage new growth and make the plant bushier in appearance.
• You can allow your arrowhead plant to trail as it begins to vine or stake it up for a more compact plant.
