Polka Dot Plant

Polka dot plants are relatively small making them great plants for small spaces. Their mature size is only about 1-2’ tall and 1’ wide. Though small in stature, polka dot plants’ vivacious foliage certainly makes a statement!

LIGHT: Polka dot plants prefer bright indirect or filtered light. Avoid harsh sunlight which can fade the plants colorful foliage.

HUMIDITY: Polka dot plants prefer at least 50% humidity. Humidity usually isn’t an issue during the spring and summer. Through the winter months, consider using a humidifier or pebble tray with water (make sure the pot isn’t sitting in the water) to help boost the humidity.

WATERING: Allow the top 1⁄2”of soil to dry. Try to keep the soil evenly moist without being soggy. If the soil is too dry, the leaves will wilt and can become dry and crispy.

PROPAGATION:Polka dot plants are easily propagated with stem cuttings. With sharp, clean scissors cut a 4-5” piece of stem, dip in rooting hormone, and plant in moist soil. Place in a location with bright indirect light. Roots should start to grow after about a week. Keeping the cutting warm will help them root faster.

OTHER CARE:

  • Polka dot plants are heavy feeders. Fertilize with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer about once a month. Fish emulsion and Superthrive work well.

  • These plants have a tendency to get leggy. To keep your plant compact and bushy, pinch the top inch or two off. This will also stimulate more vigorous growth.

  • Polka dot plants really don’t like to be below 70°F.

  • Polka dot plants do great in terrariums because of their love of high humidity!

  • Polka dot plants are considered non-toxic.
